Gerard John Kelly, Newfoundland Born Artist

Newfoundland has a long and varied history. My family and the families of many native born Newfoundlanders made that history. I feel it is important that I have my history and culture to draw on for inspiration, and self-knowledge and exploration. It is because of that history that I claim to be a Newfoundland artist. I think it is important that we acknowledge our heritage, history and our culture. I can claim to be a proud, native born Newfoundland Artist. It might only be a matter of symantics or a feeling of lost identity.  It might only be a matter of semantics or a feeling of lost identity, or maybe wrongly placed protective-ism, but a question lingers.
